We were sold on this Milan bolthole's shared rooftop terrace alone. And that was before we’d even seen its location. Set in the vibrant heart of Porta Venezia, you’ve got buzzy cafes, bars and handy shops by the dozen in the streets below, and Indro Montanelli Public Gardens are just across the road. Here for the sights? The city’s iconic cathedral is just an eight-minute tram ride away – or an easy 25-minute stroll. Back home, the retro-feel interiors give a welcoming feel to the place, although it’s worth noting that at full occupancy, the last two guests will be sharing a sofa-bed in the living room. But for a home this characterful, we can let that slide.
