Shifting Gears has clearly been designed by someone with an eye for interiors. Even though the footprint is pretty small, the space has been manipulated cleverly to make it feel much bigger. Some of the design is more what you’d expect to find in Copenhagen than in Madrid (the wall-mounted bike feels like a particular candidate for an Instagram post). There’s even a balcony, which although too small for socialising, has a lovely view out over La Latina.

*You'll have to go up sixty-five steps to reach the front door
*The living room doesn't have any windows of it's own – it gets light through the glass walls of the bedroom
*If the glass walls leave you feeling a bit exposed, there are curtains to provide some privacy
*Two people can sleep on a sofa bed in the living room
