There’s no price for guessing what the city of Porto is famous for. However, you may be surprised to find that this fortified wine begins its life far from the city, in the vineyards found upstream and on either side of the river Douro, and it’s here where you’ll find this eye-catching villa. Overlooking the slopes of Portugal’s wine region, this home boasts panoramic views that are almost impossible to tear your eyes away from. At sunset, make a beeline for the infinity pool that stretches out across the width of the house. There’s a second heated swimming pool to the side, best reached through the open-plan living and dining room. Take a dip beneath a starlit sky or sunbathe during the day. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and windows can be found from the kitchen to the three bedrooms, effortlessly bridging the indoors and outside. The best views can be found from the balcony on the first floor. Since this area has been granted UNESCO World Heritage status, you’ll find that there’s plenty of exploring and hiking to do. But there’s also fun to be had at home on a rainy afternoon – challenge the group to a championship of billiards and table football and may the best team win.
*Though the villa only has three bedrooms, it can house eight people, so do ask about those extra beds
*Pick the most confident driver for this journey as you will need to navigate mountain passes to reach the villa
*Take care on the surfaces around the infinity pools, no one wants to see you slip headfirst into the water
