On the outside, this 18th-century barn conversion is rustic as can be. But step through the door and you'll be transported into a serene Scandinavian-inspired space – appropriate, given guests enjoy a private session in the shared Finnish sauna. The wood-burning stove, replete with a supply of logs, is the perfect tonic after a brisk stroll through the glens of the Pentland Hills Regional Park, and the kitchen provides everything you need for dinner. You'll need a car here, as it's a mile from the nearest road and a short drive from Penicuik – but the parking spot makes this a breeze. Just note there are a few other cottages on-site, so you may bump into other guests from time to time.
*The sauna can be used for free once a week for a private two-hour session. Towels and robes are supplied, but it is recommended you bring swimming costumes.
*Due to this home's location along a 1-mile farm track, we recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your stay. It can be bumpy in places, but there’s free parking for one car, and further parking may be available on request. The phone signal is sometimes patchy.
*The bedroom is quite small with limited storage. Combined with the lack of a washing machine, the home might not be suitable for extended stays.
*The host lives across the farmyard and is on hand if you need anything.
*There are three steps inside the home.
*There is an electric car charger available.
