I have traveled extensively in the Caribbean and I discovered that Dominica is the n.1 island if you love nature . Villa Passiflora made me holiday really memorable , I think is the most beautiful villa on the island. The staff and the owneri are really special. We had the chef one night and was delicious. Don't miss Emerald pool, Trafalgar falls and Red Rock (with Nigel the tour guide). We've rent a Toyota Rav and in 7 days we did 700 km on the island! There is so much to see and do.

I've rented houses in Lisbon, England, Colorado, Mexico, Mallorca and more...and this house ranks at the top of the list. After a long day of travel (and there's no way to get to Dominica without that), this house will wash away all your ills. Brad and Lisa, the caretakers, are wonderful. Isolene is sweet as could be. The Atlantic coast, with its rocky cliffs, is stunning; and you have no better view of it than from the verandas of Villa Passiflora. Everything has been thought of: from the hammocks to the video and book libraries. It is a shame that it's not closer to the southern interior of the island. Not at all necessary to a lovely time on Dominica, it's still the area that has some of the best hiking and jungle tours on the island. But, that's really quite minor. There's still plenty to explore in the north, and you wouldn't be doing wrong to limit your time up there. My only real complaint had to do with the dogs. I understand their necessity; but they did bark multiple times during the night, waking me and my husband up each time. And, with the house's open air design, the noises of the jungle kept us up, then, for some time afterwards. Nothing to be done about that, really, but if you're a light sleeper, you might want to consider going elsewhere. (Although I'd be skeptical you could find something better than this.)

I couldn't have described our experience any better than KY_Cliffhouse did. From Isolene and the beautiful property of Villa Passiflora, to Wendy with Untouchable Tours, our vacation was perfect. Hire Wendy for a day, he is great. We spent 3 days on Batibou Beach and it is my favorite beach of the Caribbean. Brad and Lisa at Villa Passiflora are great. They can help you with anything. Brad even made a dinner reservation for me in Calibishe for the night of our arrival via email. Waking up and having coffee on the deck of the villa was a great way to start our days. The view is outstanding. We took the trail down to the beach on our first morning. It is a perfect way to get introduced to the beauty of the island. There is also a restaurant/bar (POZ) just a 2 min wak from Villa Passiflora. We were traveling as 3 couples so this was a nice place to meet up and tell stories of that days adventures. Our vacation to Dominica was amazing and Villa Passiflora was the perfect place to stay. Even though we are getting 10 inches of snow today, if I close my eyes, I can still hear the gentle sounds of the waves at Villa Passiflora. True paradise.

Our family of 6 stayed one week at Villa Passiflora. The Villa is very open air with birds and critters free to roam which we totally enjoyed..the views were amazing and we actually watched a humpback whale and her calf from the veranda drinking morning coffee..The caretakers Brad and Lisa are very helpful and full of Island information which we appreciated and Isolene, the housekeeper is a Gem! The villa is very beautiful and well kept and the guard dogs take there job very seriously, but when given a treat can give a friendly tailwagging...Totally enjoyed our stay!

This was our second, but not our last, stay at this villa. The northern shore of Dominica is dominated by red rocky outcrops jutting unto the sea with interposed arcs of beach. This is the Atlantic side of the island, so there are waves crashing on the shore. The waves provide the sound that is my vacation tonic, lulling me to sleep at night. I personally never found the surf too high for swimming or snorkeling. The house is on a ridge overlooking Pointe Baptiste Beach. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, and the location and grounds create a spectacular view, but requires either a walk or drive to get to the beach. A path leads down to the beach, ending at a rocky outcrop. The final section requires a scramble over the rocks. This is my preferred route, but others may feel uncomfortable crossing over rock footholds. The alternative route is a 20 minute walk down the road to Pointe Baptiste Road, then up and over a ridge to the beach. There are three beaches in the Calibishe area; Pointe Baptiste, Number 1, and Batibou. All three beaches have monitors to answer questions and keep the beach clean and safe. The Beach Bar on Pointe Baptiste is currently closed, however Clyde was present with a cooler and beer to meet our needs. A section of the beach has black sand which makes a great photo backdrop. We didn't make it to Number 1 beach this year, but it is the second prettiest beach I have ever seen. The prettiest is Batibou, and we spent two days here. Tucked between two red rock spars, it is spectacular. The beach bar provides great rum punch, cold beer, and a delicious grilled lunch. This is my favorite place in the entirety of the Caribean. The population of Calibishie is poor by American standards, but we found them to be an additional asset to the trip. They are warm and friendly, and personified by Isolene who prepared delicious local fare to provide a treat on returning in the evening. This house has all of rooms opening to the outside. There is petty theft throughout the Caribean, and some precautions are in order. The caretakers and Isolene are present during the day, and at night the two dogs will warn of intruders. The dogs never bothered us, but we are used to dogs at home. At night we locked the kitchen, put all valuables in the safe, and slept with the doors wide open listening to the waves on the shore. We rented a car last year, but used Wendy of Untouchable Tours this year to pick us up from the airport and drive us to Batibou Beach (twice) and two excursions to the interior of the island. Total cost was about the same as a rental, but more relaxing than being the driver Finally, we have grown to appreciate Calibishie. We loved the restaurants, and often made our choices when we made a reservation, with the cook starting our entrees while we were walking in. We also bought items fro the local roadside stands which were uniformly delicious snacks. In summery, this house and area provides a level of rest and relaxation that is intoxicating, and we will be back next year.

We just returned from our second stay at Villa Passiflora and really hated to leave. The villa is spacious and breezy as the open floor plan catches the trade winds and the constant sound of the surf lulls you into a slower more peaceful pace. The caretakers are on the premises but totally unobtrusive. The watchdogs give a sense of safety and while they occasionally bark, as someone who lives with a dog, it is hardly noticeable. We generally start the day with a swim in the pool and coffee, then walk to Calibishie for a late breakfast or early lunch then walk to the beach or have Wendy of Untouchable Tours take us on an adventure. Later watch the sunset with a rum punch knowing our great dinner is waiting made by Isolene. She makes your stay lovely with ironed sheets and clean towels when you return at the end of the day out all is tidy and fresh. Last year we stayed with another couple for 9 nights, this year with the same friends for 12 nights and we are planning to return next year!

We rented Villa PassiFlora for the month of January, 2014. The owner, Bruce, was very responsive and easy to deal with in the confirmation process. We are two women well past retirement age, who escape the cold New England winters every year by renting somewhere each January, and then returning to a villa we have rented for over a decade in the British Virgin Islands. Let me begin with the location: the view of the Atlantic Ocean from the pool and decks is spectacular. But since the house faces North, there was not one spot where you could sit in the sun (at least in January), which means the infinity pool stays cold. Even with a 4-wheel drive car, you will find the roads are in awful shape and rental cars have the steering column on the right (British style). The nearest village of Calibishie is quite limited in services and goods, and the locals did not seem particularly friendly. The Villa is described on the website as a "luxury villa" but it did not meet our experience and expectations with other luxury villas, some found on VRBO. The kitchen was not provisioned with a nice set of dishes (rather all but the cereal bowls and cups and saucers were plastic). There is no dishwasher, coffee maker, outside grill or toaster, and very limited glassware. Most troubling for us, since we are big readers, is the the fact that there were no comfortable reading chairs with lamps or other lighting. In fact the villa's lighting in general is sparse, mostly using wall sconces. The most serious issue for us was safety. We understand that petty thievery is a problem on many of the islands, but we had never experienced the degree of concern exhibited by these owners. There are two dogs, a Rottweiler and a Pit Bull, who guard the perimeter of the house 24/7. In addition, the owners request that you close, bolt and lock, all of the doors on both levels whenever you leave the premises AND at night. While all of these measures are intended to make guests feel safe, it had the opposite effect on us. In the end, the above issues were significant enough that we left after three days, despite having paid for the month. I am aware that our experience appears to be the exception, given other rave reviews--many of which influenced our decision to rent the Villa in the first place. My purpose in writing this review is in no way intended to "dis" this property or its owners, but rather to give future renters an additional perspective.

This is a beautiful house in a lovely location and we weren't disappointed at the quality of the rooms, the communal areas and the way in which it is looked after by the housekeeper Isolene and the resident caretakers. The view from the terrace is wonderful and because the house is designed to be as open as possible, you fall asleep listening to the crashing of waves and the tree frogs chirping. Or the drumming of rain on the roof and the howling gale which we experienced in early December! The big problem with this house is that it is north facing and you simply don't get sun on the terraces. If you want to sunbathe your only option is to go up to the roof but you can't really drag a sunlounger with you. The lack of sun also means that the pool never warms up and it's not a particularly delightful experience to swim in. Of course there may be more sun at other times of the year but if, like me, you would like to get a bit of a tan you might be advised to seek an alternative. The other issue with this house is that it is protected by two Rottweiler dogs who live in the basement area and bark ferociously when anyone approaches the house. Guests are safe because of the electronic tags on the dogs' collars which prevents them from coming near to the front door but it is quite annoying to be barked at every time you come back from an outing. The owner argues that quality villas like this can be a target for burglars but the dogs create an atmosphere which personally I didn't find conducive to rest and relaxation. Overall, I think this would be a great option for nature lovers who want a comfortable and well cared-for base in a part of the island that has lots of scenic delights but isn't really good for beach lovers, the sea is just too rough.

I believe this is possibly the most beautiful villa on Dominica. Completely open-air, so skiddish people beware: there will be lizards, birds and the occasion bat visitors. But, doesn't that add to the charm? Fantastic view, great rooms and a wonderful housekeeper/chef, Isolene. Although snorkelers might say it's too rough on the Atlantic, there are calm days and protected coves. One of the nicest is just a short walk from the villa. We stayed a week and never saw anyone else on the beach. We really could have just stayed at the villa and spent time on that beach, but we ventured on. Ft. Shirley, Cabrit's National Park, Tourcari Bay for snorkeling, Northern Link Road, Number One Beach (Johnny Depp, yes....), Batibou Beach,Central Forest Reserve (by accident), Emerald Pool, Kalinago People, Snorkeling Scott's Head and Champagne Reef. Whew! I'd like to be clear about something. Dominica prides itself on being a very safe island, but no place is free of crime. Just be careful: don't pick up hitchhikers, be prepared to be accosted by so-called "guides" at tourist spots, ladies need to watch for overly-friendly men. The Villa itself is a haven. There is "security", e.g. Jacko and Evee, the dogs, and caretakers on the premises. I loved this place.

Having never been to Dominica, I was a little hesitant to book our accommodation sight unseen. However, after much research and reading the reviews on FlipKey and Vrbo, I was confident that I had made the right choice in choosing Villa PassiFlora. Villa PassiFlora did not disappoint, from arrival to departure, we were treated just like part of the family. Brad, Lisa and Isolene were the most gracious of hosts and so very helpful. Isolene's breakfasts were just want were needed for a break away from the hustle and bustle of life. The villa looks exactly as pictured, the views alone make the villa worth every penny spent and the . It is absolutely idyllic and perfect for either a romantic getaway or a family vacation. The location is great with a few restaurants in close walking proximity as well as a beach. You could even spend all your time in the villa and still feel like you had the best vacation ever! Stay at Villa PassiFlora, you won't want to leave, I know we didn't.

This was our first time visiting Dominica. It lived up to everything we had hoped for: hiking in the rain forest, swimming in fresh water pools below waterfalls, hot springs and pools, beaches, whale sightings, snorkeling. Villa Passiflora is in the northeast of the island above a sleepy village. The house is situated on rocks above the atlantic, an easy walk to a lovely beach, with amazing views of the coastline. The house itself has nice amenities, great baths and beds, lovely pool to float in to watch the stars at night. Services were great - after a long day of hiking to Boiling Lake it was wonderful to come back to a home-cooked meal by the housekeeper waiting on the stove. Only negative is that you had to lock yourself and all rooms when you went to bed at night and when you leave due to potential petty crime, although we never felt threatened while in Dominica. To the contrary, all the locals seemed lovely, once you struck up a conversation. House was quite nice, with hammocks nicely placed, great wifi, and helpful caretakers. One thing - stairs are uneven, which means you have to pay attention when going up and down. Maybe not ideal for young kids or older people with balance issues. Use local guides to take you to the best places, and enjoy the beauty of this unusual island.

Paradise found! We had the most amazing week in Dominica at Villa Passiflora. The house itself was so much nicer than we had imagined, it is all we had dreamed of in a Carribean destination. Stylish, natural and very comfortable without being ostentatious. You immediately feel at one with your surroundings which are stunning! If you can prise yourself away from the pool and terrace, a short walk takes you to an amazing stretch of coast with interesting rock formations and a lovely beach. The village of Calibishie is charming, authentic and a great place to enjoy the local food. The surrounding vegetation was so lush and beautiful we felt like we were holidaying in a tropical paradise, with amazing walks to waterfalls and stunning beaches, eating coconuts off the beach, and fresh bananas and mangoes from the roadside stalls. Everybody was so friendly, especially the housekeeper who made us feel like family. We were thoroughly charmed by the place and hope to return as soon as we can. Many thanks to all.

Our family found Villa PassiFlora while we were looking for a place to bring all of our adult children to scuba dive, snorkel and make special memories. From the moment you catch a glimpse of this property driving up the driveway, you are taken in by its magic. This is a perfect place to enjoy the diverse Caribbean jewel of Dominica. It is located just above an amazing beach with ocean breezes to lull you to sleep. The house is meticulously maintained and caretakers are on the property to assist, but are quietly in the background. The home is even more beautiful than the website pictures can capture. A negative edge pool draws you into a place where you can appreciate an incredible wide-angle view while cooling off, chatting with family and enjoying a delicious rum punch. The housekeeper makes a fresh loaf of bread every morning and fresh tropical fruit is abundant. Calibishie is a perfect location for exploring all the nature the island has to offer-waterfalls, rainforest, hot pools, hiking, beautiful (empty) beaches... You can experience driving on the left side of the road through endless rain forest. Oxygen levels have to be some of the highest on the planet! Diving is superb. This is a treasure of a vacation spot and we would all go again in a heartbeat. (It may not be the spot for some who are challenged by stairs.)

Villa Passi Flora is the ultimate in vacation home rentals. Not only is the island beautiful, but this villa is completely furnished with everything you would need...the kitchen has every tool, pan, gadget; the beds were extremely comfortable, and the open shower bath was wonderful. The furnishings were so comfortable and plentiful, that it made you feel as if you were in your own home. The staff is fantastic,, and the open air feeling of the villa is great. Perched on a cliff, with multiple alternate level verandas, you have sweeping views of the atlantic ocean, and striking views of nearby beach, cliffs and gardens. It is on the north side of the island, nestled in a small, friendly village; away from the hustle and bustle of nearby, but much busier villages. Easy to buy groceries, walk, hike and the scuba diving is very nice. I would recommend hiring a car for convenience.. I would certainly recommend PassiFlora Villa to anyone who wants peace, quiet, beauty and appreciate hiking and discovering the nature of this island.

Awesome, perfect and wonderful. The pictures you see on the internet don't do the house or the island justice...nor could they as they are both amazing.  Before the trip the owner of the house, Bruce, is extremely helpful and informative about both the island and the house.  The staff at the house take great care of you ...and the fresh juices are die for!  One of the best beaches on the island is less than a 10 minutes walk away and you fall asleep every night to the sound of the ocean. If you can't guess I highly recomend staying here!

Villa Passiflora has everything you need for a perfect Caribbean experience...open air living, books and a hammock, hillside views with cooling breezes yet close proximity to a beautiful (and often deserted) swimming beach, a roof deck for sunsets and star gazing, a great Caribbean music collection, nearby shopping and restaurants, a convenient location for exploring the island, and a wonderfully helpful and accommodating staff. I only regret that we didn't have a longer stay and that we missed mango season!

Villa PassiFlora is one of the most beautiful homes I have ever experienced. The view of the atlantic as you sit on the deck by the infinity pool is so relaxing, and the Caribbean style open air atmosphere is so refreshing. The rooms are lovely, clean and each has its own bath. At the top of the stairs is the "observatory" where you can sit and see the stars from the roof after sunset. The grounds of Villa PassiFlora are planted with native fruit trees, flowers, and shrubs. Stephan, the groundskeeper maintains a garden, and is always there to assist with whatever you might need. The trail down to the beach is well maintained. Once you reach the beach you discover a landscape that is dotted with coral reefs that emerge from the ocean inviting you to explore their tiny cities. Clown fish dart and beautiful snails flourish in these sunlit ponds. Just around the next rock, a wide sandy beach beckons, and a lovely cove invites you for a swim. You will no doubt arrive home hungry after an outing at the beach, and here is where Dominica really shines: the food! All kinds of fresh foods are available and Isolene is a fabulous cook! The kitchen is well equipped, and there are plenty of cookbooks covering the local cuisine. If you are not inclined to cook, Randy's Restaurant is right down the road, or Isolene can prepare something for you at home. The market is open Saturday and is a must! It is just a short drive to Portsmouth, and the market there has fresh food from local farmers, breads, fruits, sweets, and coconut juice made on the spot with a cutlass! Bring a jug and take some home. The passion fruit was our favorite. Cut them open, scoop out the seeds, put them in the blender, then strain, add water and a bit of sugar, wow! You will crave it all year long.

Just 20 minutes from the airport (Melville) immediately relaxes you with the sweet smell of banana leaves from the groves hugging the highway. Loved my 5 day stay in the village of Calibishe, the Villa has plenty of rooms for a family or friends with 3 magnificent bedrooms with extra beds available for kids. The beautifully designed home with open air veranda to the sea breezes and sounds of waves crashing below. Doze to the sounds of waves crashing and wind blowing through the louvered windows. The lay out of the "green? Villa allows for serenity inside and outside, or for cooking in large spacious kitchen with all green appliances and the furniture and bathroom fixtures are comfortable. The short drive to Portsmouth, the 2nd largest city and Saturday market is worth it to purchase fruits and veggies from vendors selling organic produce grown in their local gardens. The rich volcanic soil and tropical locale creates pineapples the sweetest I've ever tasted, with luscious mangos. You must be adventurous and in shape, as this is not a tourist destination and you must have a 4-wheel drive to get to any place or walk, like the locals do. Swim in either the pool, or calm Caribbean or choppier atlantic (some beaches are unsafe), hike to the Boiling Lake (crater) at the top of the 4,000 elevation Mount Trois Pitons National Park. Locals speak English and original Creole patois and are delightfully laid back and live a very natural life. Walk to the Escape Bar and Grill with open air seating and chairs right on the shore of the atlantic. Swimming is perfect the water is crystal clear to swim position yourself between the red rocks. Beachside chairs provided and order your delicious meal and libation. Batibou Beach where Pirates of the Caribbean was shot has swaying palm trees and tropical environment was unlike any atlantic/Caribbean beach I've experienced.

From start to finish, PassiFlora Dominica, was exactly the Caribbean getaway I was looking for. No traffic, no traffic jams, no crowded fast food restaraunts. The most beautiful island I've visited. It was truly a photographers dream with all the lush tropical flora and scenery available for shooting. PassiFlora Dominica's open air floor plan truly enhanced the experience without that boxed in hotel feel. The porch hammocks were a nice retreat after a good swim in the ocean. I'll be back!

This villa contains three beautifully appointed bedrooms with queen sized beds. In addition, there is a twin bed in the study adjoining the master. The pictures on this site and the Villa's website are very representative. The house is quiet and feels very safe. The couple taking care of the house live in the basement apartment are are very nice and helpful. There are two guard dogs and all the bedrooms have locking doors and a safe so the security is good. Its great to have a pool for a refresing dip. The kitchen is very functional and we used it every day.The mosquito netting was reassuring and pretty - although there were no mosquitos seen during our stay. Definitely air conditioning was not needed - cool breezes coming off the ocean feel great and we were actually using a blanket. Only minor improvement would be access to a washing machine. Everything else was flawless. Re the location - Calibishie was our favorite area of the island but you might want to stay part of your trip in the south of the island if you want to spend a lot of time in Rousea Valley. We went twice - once for boiling lake and once to visit Wotten Waven/Champagne Reef/Waterfalls - and that was good for us - but driving is long.

Villa Passiflora is a jewel. It's a brilliantly conceived and wonderfully built place overlooking the sea in the most beautiful of the Caribbean islands: Dominica. We're back now but we can still hear the waves breaking below us as we lay in bed at night. I can still see my toes set against the sea as I sit with my feet up, reading. We feel very fortunate that there are people with the intelligence and vision to create such a place and who make it available to others.

My family of five enjoyed an extended stay at Villa PassiFlora this past January. This is a high end villa by Dominican standards. Beautifully designed and open to the sea with magnificent views, we loved our stay here. The caretakers, Amy and Alder, were fantastic and really made the stay even more special in more ways than I can describe here. And the owner was extremely easy to work with and very accommodating. We will certainly be back for a return visit soon. If you are looking for a class A villa on the north shore of Dominica, this is it. Just don't rent it when we want to go! :-) Now for a few words of guidance. Dominica is a place for nature lovers. If you want an air conditioned resort, with all of the amenities of the first world; you are coming to the wrong place. For example, there are no screens on the windows in this villa. Thus, you will have bugs and birds passing through. We loved having the place open to feel the breeze from the sea and hear the surf and tree frogs at night. We were never hot here. But if you are a person that needs to seal off the indoors from the outdoors, this place is not for you. And I can't leave this review without mentioning the dogs. If large dogs frighten you, I would not recommend coming here. As I'm sure you can read in other reviews, there are two large guard dogs that do a very good job of guarding the perimeter of the house. The older one, takes her job quite seriously and I'm fairly sure that she would have eaten one of us for breakfast if she had escaped her electronic fence. The younger one actually has a soul. We were able to pet him and he got to know us after a few days. They will bark like crazy each and every time someone comes near the house, including when that someone is you. The plus to this (I guess) is that you don't need to worry much about intruders, not that we would anyway. We have walked all over Dominica and never once felt threatened or unsafe, but I'm sure petty theft can happen. Villa PassiFlora was perfect for our family (teenage kids). I will dream about our stay here on many cold nights spent back in Wisconsin. Until next time, Villa PassiFlora. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Our family of five stayed here in January for a month and absolutely loved it. Not only is the island beautiful with so many incredible hikes and places to explore, but Villa PassiFlora and Amy and Alder made the experience that much better. From giving us tips on where to visit to helping us buy veggies from the veggie truck man to going on morning walks with our thirteen year old brother they were incredible. They truly made the villa a home away from home. We have gone to the Virgin Islands every winter for the past eight years and this was by far the best villa we have ever stayed in. Along with that Dominica is by far the most beautiful island we've ever been to. I would highly recommend staying here as well as visiting Dominica!

Accueil vraiment chaleureux!

Our group of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our week and were sorry to leave. First of all, the architecture and the wood are stunning. The interior decoration is very pleasing, with lots of details we kept noticing. Everything was very comfortable: beds, towels, sheets, lounge chairs. Bathrooms were great. The kitchen was so well-stocked. And now the best part: the view! Whenever I came out on 1 of the verandas, the view of the ocean, waves crashing on rocks, lights blinking on Guadaloupe, distant mountains...it took my breath away! We were all pinching ourselves, feeling as if we were in paradise. And the roar of the waves and the chirping tree frogs would lull us to sleep at night. The housekeeper and caretakers were all very welcoming and eager to help us in any way. They are unusually sweet people. We enjoyed 1 of Isalene’s scrumptious dinners. During our stay we did a variety of activities, from hiking to swimming and loved the unspoiled island and the friendly people. We hope to come back some time.

Staying at the Villa Passiflora was so incredible that it felt like a dream. Every morning we would wake up and say, “Is this real life?!” My parents had the master suite upstairs, and my BF and I stayed in the suite on the bottom floor near the infinity pool and a hammock. The house had everything from high-quality linens and beach towels to a well-appointed kitchen. When we arrived, the hosts had filled baskets with fresh fruit. One of the first things we did was to walk down to the rocky outcropping amidst the crashing waves. You can also walk to Hodges Beach, and several other beaches are just a short drive away. For nightlife, you can walk up the road to Poz Restaurant, which features excellent food, cocktails, and karaoke! Our suite was very comfortable and airy and we were soothed to sleep by the loud ocean surf. With three separate suites, this house is large and airy and perfect for three couples. The housekeeper, Isoline, is super-sweet and friendly and a great cook. The proprietors of the villa, Amy and Alder, are very friendly and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. They have two large guard dogs to protect the property. As other reviewers have written, the dogs do bark sometimes, but they make you feel safe. The two levels of decks both have incredible views of the crashing waves. We even saw a vivid double rainbow! Some guests have spotted whales. The top of the house even has an observation deck from which we drank Kubuli and watch the sunset. We feel so lucky that we got to spend a week at the Villa Passiflora and would love to come back someday.

My husband & I and 3 friends meet somewhere every year for diving. This year we chose Dominica and Villa PassiFlora and we were so happy we did! We traveled around the island and, in my opinion, Villa PassiFlora is definitely the best place to stay in Dominica. We were met by Amy and Alder, the care takers of the property. They gave us a tour of the house and explained any details. They were wonderful people and a joy to talk to. Amy allowed us to go on a hike with her and Jacko the next morning, which was great. She took us to places I'm sure we wouldn't have discovered alone. She even brought us fresh tomatoes from the farmer when he came by the next day! The 3 bedrooms with separate baths was perfect for us. The pool was sparkling clean. I don't think I've ever seen clearer water in a pool and it didn't have a chemical odor or burn our eyes. The grounds were so beautifully landscaped with natural island plants, trees and rock. The house itself was built using trees found on the island. Very natural and open. The next day we met Isalene. She was so sweet and amazingly positive. Isalene took such great care of us! She made us feel like we were family. She had left us fresh squeezed juice in the fridge along with some homemade bread and jam. And also had fresh bananas, mango, passion fruit and oranges from local farmers to enjoy. The house, of course, was spotless! Isalene was absolutely the best! The first night we discovered the microwave didn't work. We are microwave popcorn addicts, as well as, unfortunately, dependent on conveniences. When we asked Isalene about it, she was so disappointed that something in her house was broken and apologized over and over again. It wasn't really big deal because we had went into town and bought popping corn because the house has everything needed to cook with. But, Isalene, being the wonderful person she is, had the microwave checked out. It was dead. That's wasn't the end though. Isalene, on her day off, had someone drive her to Roseau (not and easy nor quick trip and you know what I mean if you've been to Dominica) and bought a microwave so we could have our microwave popcorn! We were so amazed that she really wanted to make sure we were happy! Everyday we would leave the house and come back to find it spotless, her sweet smile and more fresh fruit! She also cooked dinner for us a couple of nights and it was so delicious! Better than anything we ate anywhere else on the island. One morning we decided we'd like to go hiking, so we asked her if she could recommend a guide and she sprang into action, calling a friend who met us at the house (walked) withing 30 minutes! We so regret that we had an early flight and didn't get to see her on our last day there. We will always remember Villa PassiFlora how wonderful it was and Isalene for making it perfect! If you are planning a trip to Dominica, Villa PassiFlora along with Isalene, Amy & Alder, is absolutely, in my opinion, THE BEST!

Where to start with Villa PassiFora! What an incredible place! We travelled as a group of 6 people our 30s who were on an island hopping trip of the Caribbean with 5 nights to spend in Dominica at the villa. We arrived to Calibishie late at night after driving from the ferry in Roseau which was an adventure in itself! After a few wrong turns, we made it to the villa where Ando was ready to welcome us and explain everything we needed to know. it may have been dark but we were all blown away by the villa, the photos do not do justice to how beautiful this place is. It immediately feels like a home away from home, with so many personal touches put in place by the owners from the decor to the library or books, caribbean music and board games to make you feel right at home. One of our group was only with us for a day and so we had booked a trip in advance to the boiling lake for our first day which was organised for us fully through owner Bruce and the amazing Isaline, the Villa's housekeeper and all round legend! This tour was carried out by Nigel, a friend of the Passiflora team, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. He even came out of his way to visit us at dinner the night before to brief us on the next day's hike which was really appreciated! Nigel was from start to finish the perfect guide and really did the team proud for recommending him. He was so brilliant at explaining everything along the way on the hike, from the flora, fauna and history of dominica. The boiling lake hike was definitely a challenge but Nigel made it so much fun and an unforgettable experience. He is also probably one of the nicest people we have ever met! He had us in hysterical laughter the whole time with his brilliant energy and so if you are considering doing any trips from the villa- make sure you ask for Nigel, he absolutely made our trip! With the hike done we were able to relax for the next few days in the villa which we were so excited for and it didn't disappoint. The Villa itself is breathtaking. Absolutely beautiful rooms and kept to a very high standard. Going to sleep at night with the sound of the waves was so special and I have never stayed anywhere like it. It was ideal for 3 couples and felt like more of a boutique hotel with each room having it's own key and entrance areas. The communal areas were also so clean and the view was amazing! We had a bit of rain which sadly meant we couldn't enjoy the pool, as the sun didn't quite reach it to heat it enough but we spent hours playing the game of life which is provided in the villa, and we had a brilliant time! When the sun did come out we headed to the roof terrace which was a brilliant sunbathing spot and had an incredible view. We also spent a lot of time reading in the hammocks, which really you could do all day! Again, with the help of the owners we had pre organised some yoga classes at the villa with Elise, from Alive with Elise, who came along and took morning yoga classes for us on the upstairs decking- as someone who loves yoga, this was a truly unforgettable experience in the most incredible setting and we all took part, even one of the group who had never taken part in any yoga, really enjoyed it. The local area of Calibishe is fantastic and very authentic with some of the warmest and kindest people we met on our entire trip. We were able to explore the local beaches and town- sampling rum shacks and local restaurants along the way. Huge recommendation for the Rainbow restuarant and bar in town run by Michael, who's food was fantastic and treated us to some impromptu musical performance. A night to remember! We also have to mention POZ! the local bar and restaurant within walking distance to the villa that we visited a LOT! Poz, the owner, really helped make our trip fantastic. He welcomed us so warmly each time and really helped us out with local enquiries and helpful trip advice. He opened up early for us for breakfast one day and catered to us all so well. The food and drinks were so tasty and he really took so much care in looking after us, another example of the world class hospitality on this island. In terms of the villa staff- Isaline the housekeeper was brilliant and like a ray of sunshine. So So friendly and welcoming and couldn't do more to help us out. As well as booking our hike, she was on hand for any and all questions and we had the pleasure of sampling her cooking one night which she had prepared for us arriving back from the hike. Ando was there to help us out whenever we needed and was great with keeping us right about the dogs. I see that many people review about the dogs and yes, they do bark but they are obviously very well trained and there to keep you safe. I could go on for pages about this place but lastly I want to say a huge thanks to the owners Bruce and Ann. I had a lot of communication with Bruce on the lead up to the trip and he was absolutely fantastic, replying to my many questions quickly and really helping us out with advice on what to see on the island, local connections and info about the villa. Ann helped us set up the yoga which was a real highlight of the trip. Having owners like this makes such a difference to a trip like this as the personal touch is there from before you even walk through the doors of Passiflora. Dominica was the highlight of my trip and the only negative was that we didn't have long enough! Thanks to all the team and we hope to be back! Ami and friends x

Bruce and Ann were amazing hosts. Bruce was very prompt with answering any questions I had about the villa. Ann was very nice and welcoming and gave us a great run down of the island as far as what to see, where to eat, etc. As soon as we got off the plane we were greeted warmly by Ann and Nigel at the airport. Upon arrival at the villa we had freshly made juice and fruits waiting for us, which was such a nice treat. The view from the balcony was gorgeous and the rooms were clean and spacious. Waking up everyday to the beautiful scenery all around was an incredible experience. The staff, Ando and Isaline, were very nice, polite and helpful. Also, Nigel, the driver I mentioned previously is a tour guide. He has amazing knowledge of the island and we definitely used his services a lot during our stay. Every time we went out sight seeing, he always tried to show us as much as he could so we would have a great experience. We ended up going to the Emerald Pool, Trafalgar Falls, Titou Gorge (although we couldn't really get a full experience due very strong currents that day), Sulfur Springs, Roseau, as well as various other waterfalls/sights in the area. Since we only stayed for 4 nights we really had limited time to explore. This place surpassed all of our expectations and made us want to come back before we even left. What can I say great hosts, staff, island made for an unforgettable experience.

The view from the infinity pool is absolutely flawless. The natural beauty of the island envelops this property, yet it was clearly built with intention and function in mind. Every aspect of this home is exotic and luxurious and welcoming, while also being a sustainable property meant to last in its environment. I highly recommend having Isaline cook a meal for you (or several!). She is fantastic and her meals are amazing.

This is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed- from the house itself with its lovely, interesting artistic touches and beautiful louvered windows and doors to a stunning ocean view across fantastic gardens. The kitchen and bathrooms and decks with hammocks and swimming pool are all simply unbelievable. It’s a quick walk to the beach on one side and interesting rocks to explore on the other. We will be back!

The house has been so thoughtfully designed and adorned. Great original art and furnishing. Each bedroom feels like a private suite, creative design and details everywhere. Soaking in the pool and watching the surf ebb and flow is exactly what was needed...morning, noon, and at night! The staff was considerate and knowledgeable about the many adventures waiting down the road....or simply down a path off the garden...there is a small beach just below the house that is so very exclusive and private (rarely saw anybody there). Unique to the Caribbean Red Rock that cascades into the turquoise water...guess what a Chocolate plantation is a short stroll from the house...seriously a CHOCOLATE PLANTATION! It is a small affair but so neat! Delicious variety to sample, you can do the tour or simply swing by after hiking the red rock park for some to take home...a funky little restaurant PoZ' with a friendly owner (and cats and a sweet dog not to mention a pool next to the bar just waiting for anyone to take a dip), rotating menu which almost always includes locally caught lobster, is right up from the house. We cooked our own meals more than half the time, given local fish, produce, and the wonderful kitchen...but also enjoyed short drives to cafes strung up and down the many villages flanking the property in both directions (keep in mind this is not Florida, some cafes were basically sand floor shacks with amazing food and people, be sure to have the house staff recommend where is best). We always found the locals not just friendly but genuinely interested in where we were from and what we thought of the island...most also had to "witness" to us the tragic experience of the hurricane 18 moths earlier. It is amazing how quickly the island has bounced back from the tragic storm. I should add that the house felt very safe and secure, The owners have a beautiful dog which is intentionally kept separate from the guests through training and invisible fencing....each room has its own key (keep in mind the house is wide open to the trade winds), but we never felt like we needed to "lock-down" the property, although we still did given our city habits. I cannot exaggerate the beauty of this property or the peacefulness of our trip....other than dining at the Secret Bay resort one day (which I would highly recommend for a special evening), every inch of this island seemed unspoiled and unassuming. I could go on, and on, and on.....massages on the deck, cocktails in the pool, a swim in a crystal clear stream, a hike to an amazing waterfall, snorkel off the west coast, lunch in Portsmouth, octopus soup (only on Saturdays) at a tiny bar on a secluded beach down the road picturesque drive to opposite side of island to check out Roseau, domino match in Claibishie....did i mention the Red Rocks and the adjacent Chocolate Plantation...don't hesitate renting this home!
